Date difference calculator

Use this date difference calculator to count the days between two dates, or to see the gap in weeks. It works for contract periods, countdowns, and vacation planning.

If the end date comes before the start date, you will see a message instead of a result.

How to use

  1. Pick a start date.
  2. Pick an end date.
  3. Read the total days, weeks, and leftover days.

How it works

Both dates are converted to the same reference time (midnight UTC) and the difference is divided into 24-hour days. This keeps time zones and daylight saving changes from affecting the result, so only calendar days are counted.

Whole weeks are the total days divided by 7, rounded down. For example, 17 days is 2 whole weeks with 3 days left over. Leap years follow the real calendar, so February 29 is counted when it exists.

The calculator shows the total days, the whole weeks, and the leftover days together.

Example

From February 28, 2024 to March 1, 2024 is 2 days, because 2024 is a leap year and February 29 falls in between.

From January 1, 2025 to January 18, 2025 is 17 days, which is 2 whole weeks and 3 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is the start or end date included?

Neither is counted as an extra day. The result is the number of days from the start date to the end date.

Are leap years handled?

Yes. Calculations use the real calendar, including February 29.

How are weeks and days calculated?

Weeks are the total days divided by 7, and the remainder is the leftover days.
